The Jijona Estate:

A Contemporary Evolution of Rural Grandeur

Nestled in the rugged, sun-drenched landscape of Jijona, this property represents a masterclass in architectural rebirth.

The journey began in 2005 with a plan to renovate the existing rural house. However, upon inspection, a startling discovery was made: the original structure had been built on plain sand without any foundations.

Tough decision

Faced with a house with no foundations, the decision was made to abandon the old, unstable shell. The original house was demolished to make way for a properly engineered, ground-up masterpiece. Completed in 2007, this new residence offers the structural integrity and high-spec comfort that the original site lacked, wrapped in a bold, modern design.

An Oasis of Leisure & Sport
Designed for a lifestyle of movement and relaxation, the estate is defined by its world-class outdoor amenities:

The Sports Complex: A full-sized, professional-grade tennis court sits at the heart of the grounds, framed by a dramatic mountain backdrop.

The Pool & Pavilion: A multi-level aquatic area featuring a deep-blue swimming pool, an integrated circular jacuzzi, and a shallow “beach” entry.

Al Fresco Living: The expansive poolside terrace is complemented by a sophisticated outdoor bar and barbecue pavilion—the ultimate setting for Mediterranean entertaining.

The Glass Cylinders: Sculpting with Light

To solve the challenge of the building’s narrow and elongated proportions, the design introduces two magnificent glass cylinders. These structural masterpieces rise from the first floor through to the roof, acting as vertical conduits for the Spanish sun. By “perforating” the core of the building, these lightwells ensure that even the deepest points of the interior are bathed in an ethereal, shifting glow. They transform the atmosphere from a standard dwelling into an evanescent sanctuary of light.
